The procedure to create a new asbestos material type is as follows:
- Navigate to Quick Menu > Asbestos > Configuration > Configure Materials Scoring. The Configure Materials Scoring window is displayed.
- Click on New Asbestos Type. The Add Asbestos Type window is displayed.
- Enter a Description for the new asbestos material type into the field provided e.g. Chrysotile, Amosite, Amphibole (excluding crocidolite), Crocidolite, etc.

- Use the Score field to assign a material assessment weighting to the asbestos type. The Up and Down arrows are available to increment or decrement the value, as required.
- Use the Code field to abbreviate the asbestos material type, as a prerequisite for customised reporting layouts.
- Using the Companies drop-down field, multi-select all companies relevant to the operating boundaries of this asbestos material type, or choose the All option, as required

- Choose an Effective from date for this asbestos material type i.e. the date on which it came into effect 2.
- Choose an Effective to date if the parameter is to be time bound; a blank field means the asbestos material type will be continually valid.
- Click on Save. The new parameter entry appears in the Asbestos Types grid 3.
Tip
1 Where only a small number of parameter values are not required, activate the All tick box first and then deselect individual items from the full list, as appropriate; the All tick box will be automatically removed once an item is deselected.
Note
1 System validation rules ensure that the description entered for each asbestos material type is unique for the selected company within the effective period.
2 The Effective from date defaults to the current system date and cannot be left blank.
3 The list position of the parameter is governed by the incrementally assigned Value.
