To create a new campaign segment

Parent Previous Next

A segment is a subset of contacts or contact groups who share one or more characteristics, and is therefore the method by which campaigns are targeted to the right audience, matching their needs, priorities and expectations. Segmentation enables a housing organisation to better understand the behaviours and aspirations of its tenants, thus informing the implementation and delivery of new services through the campaigns process.

The procedure to create a new campaign segment is as follows:

  1. Navigate to Quick Menu > Campaigns > Configuration > Segment Configuration. The Segment window is displayed.
  2. Click on New Segment 1. All fields are activated ready for data entry.
  3. Enter a Description for the campaign segment into the field provided 2.
  4. Using the Companies drop-down field, multi-select all companies for which this campaign segment is relevant, or choose the All option, as required 1.
  5. Enter a Code for the campaign segment into the field provided i.e. a short description or internal reference by which the segment can be identified.
  6. Using the Segment Type drop-down field, select the relevant target audience subset for the campaign segment i.e. Contact or Contact Group.
  7. Using the Segment Group drop-down field, select the desired parameter value relevant to the campaign segment e.g. Campaign Segments by Age, Campaign Segments by Area, etc.
  8. Click on Segment Criteria 3. The Statement Builder window is displayed.
  9. Define one or more conditions to control the cohort of contacts to be included within the segment. This requisite step is covered separately in the topic Understanding the advanced statement builder.
  10. Use the Notes field to add contextual information that will explain the derivation and purpose of the segmentation.
  11. Choose an Effective from date for this campaign segment i.e. the date on which it came into effect 4.
  12. Choose an Effective to date if the campaign segment is to be reviewed on a specific date or to capture a change of circumstances; a blank field means the segment will never expire.
  13. Click on Save 5.

Tip

1 Where only a small number of parameter values are not required, activate the All tick box first and then de-select individual items from the full list, as required; the All tick box will be automatically removed once an item is de-selected.

Note

1 Upon first access, all fields are automatically activated ready for data entry; hence the New Segment button is inactive.

2 System validation rules ensure that the description entered for each segment is unique for the effective period.

3 More complex expressions can be captured within a SQL stored procedure and linked to the campaign segment using the Advanced SQL field. Where a stored procedure has been linked to the segment, a criteria statement cannot also be employed, and vice versa.

4 The Effective from date defaults to the current system date and cannot be left blank.

5 To amend the details of an existing segment, select an entry from the alphabetical list (or type its name into the Search Contact Segments field) and repeat steps 3 through 13. By default the list is filtered to show Current campaign segments. An alternative filter can be applied using the Select view drop-down field: Expired, Future or All. Only a limited number of fields can be updated once a record has been created.
