As the variations in required campaign segments may be only minimal, it is possible to clone existing segments, retaining all the attributes and configuration settings for the statement rules, linked companies, segment classifications, etc. and apply the relevant changes to the new copy, thus saving time and effort.
The procedure to clone a campaign segment is as follows:
- Navigate to Quick Menu > Campaigns > Configuration > Segment Configuration. The Segment window is displayed.
- Select a campaign segment from the alphabetical list or type its name into the Search Contact Segments field. By default the list is filtered to show Current campaign segments. An alternative filter can be applied using the Select view drop-down field: Expired, Future or All
1.
- Click on Clone Segment. The Segment window is populated with all the attributes of the source segment.
- Enter a Description for the new campaign segment into the field provided. By default, the source segment description is displayed with an additional suffix of '1'
2.
- Using the Companies drop-down field, ensure that the selected companies are still valid for this cloned campaign segment and apply any required changes.
- Enter a Code for the cloned campaign segment into the field provided i.e. a short description or internal reference by which the segment can be identified.
- Using the Segment Type drop-down field, ensure that the selected target audience subset is still valid for this cloned campaign segment i.e. Contact or Contact Group.
- Using the Segment Group drop-down field, ensure that the selected parameter value is still relevant to the cloned campaign segment e.g. Campaign Segments by Age, Campaign Segments by Area, etc.
- Click on Segment Criteria to revise the statement rules controlling the target audience for the segment. This requisite step is covered separately in the topic To define the campaign segment criteria.
- Alternatively, ensure that the stored procedure displayed in the Advanced SQL field is still valid and apply any required changes
3.
- Amend the Notes text, as required, to reflect the derivation and purpose of the cloned segmentation.
- Amend the Effective from date for this campaign segment, as required i.e. the date on which it came into effect
4.
- Amend the Effective to date if the campaign segment status is to be reviewed on a specific date or to capture a change of circumstances; a blank field means the segment will be continually valid.
- Click on Save. The cloned campaign segment appears in the alphabetical list
5.
Note
1 The Search Contact Segments field will match against any element of the description.
2 System validation rules ensure that the description entered for each campaign segment is unique for the effective period.
3 More complex expressions can be captured within a SQL stored procedure and linked to the campaign segment using the Advanced SQL field. Where a stored procedure has been linked to the segment, a criteria statement cannot also be employed, and vice versa.
4 The Effective from date defaults to the current system date and cannot be left blank.
5 To amend the details of an existing segment, select an entry from the alphabetical list (or type its name into the Search Contact Segments field) and repeat steps 4 through 14. By default the list is filtered to show Current campaign segments. An alternative filter can be applied using the Select view drop-down field: Expired, Future or All. Only a limited number of fields can be updated once a record has been created.
